The arena
Cardiovascular & Gastrointestinal Innovative Medicines Unit (CVGI iMed) is based in its world class R&D center, located in Mölndal, Sweden (Gothenburg area). The In Vitro Team 2 in the Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD) section belongs to the Bioscience Department in iScience. The main focus of the group is to develop and run disease relevant, in vitro models and validate new target opportunities using state of the art in vitro technologies with emphasis on stem cell and regenerative medicine approaches. Although the team's main focal point is in vitro biology, coordination and molecular assessment of in vivo pharmacology studies is also part of the work.
As Team Leader you will lead, motivate and develop a team of bioscientists with focus on cardiology studies across all phases of the drug discovery pipeline up to clinical development. The Team will work closely with other in vitro and in vivo bioscientists in the CVD Section and the Bioscience Department, as well as with other functions at AstraZeneca. As Team Leader you will be a permanent member of the CVD Area Leadership Team.
The role
Focussing on individual and Team development
Organising, supervising and performing in vitro pharmacological investigations to understand mechanism of action of small or large molecule candidate drugs and support established projects in the portfolio
As a member of a the CVD science group, working closely with Team members to identify, develop and progress target opportunities in various biological effect areas
As a member of a drug project team, contribute scientifically to the evaluation and timely progression of compounds through the value chain up to clinical development.
Project delivery, through the engagement of team members and the use of appropriate technologies according to agreed priorities.
Optimising efficiency and effectiveness in lab work.
Performing, supervising and establish cardiac stem cell & regenerative medicine methods and models in the lab.
Agreeing and monitoring progress against team goals and objectives.
As part of the CVD section leadership team, the Team Leader is accountable to the Section Head for:
Performance management and people development.
Personal contribution to various Disease Area and/or Project Teams as required.
Effective interactions with other Disease Area teams and with Integrative & Cell & Molecular Pharmacology as well as with other functions.
Quality and accuracy of data generated by the Team.
Documentation and storage of data according to departmental policy.
Effective communication within and outside the Team.
Ensuring that all staff in the group work according to internal and external policies.
Minimum experience
Education
PhD and Post Doctoral education within the relevant field.
Experience
Excellent communicator securing the flow of information within and outside own team, and a good motivator of team performance and development.
Excellent organizing skills with the ability to handle numerous simultaneous tasks.
Significant experience and skills in molecular and cell biology techniques including cardiac stem cells and regenerative medicine approaches.
