Hardware Designer - Electrical Machines
At RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT you will be a key contributor to the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers over the world, you and your team will create innovative human-centric car technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. As HARDWARE DESIGNER - ELECTRICAL MACHINES within the group Electric Drives you hold component responsibility for electric machine elements and you will lead the design work thereof. You will work in close cooperation with other engineering units, Product Planning, Purchasing, Manufacturing and After Market. The role offers an opportunity for personal development through internal courses in electric drive and power electronics led by technical specialists. You will work and prosper in a team that is skilled, innovative and have high passion for the area.
Electric Drives is part of the new and expansive department Electrical Propulsion Systems (EPS). EPS is responsible to design and deliver electrical machines, inverters, battery systems as well as power supply and charging systems for electrified vehicles. EPS cooperate closely with suppliers from all over the world as well as with academia and research organisations.
Job profile:
• Lead the design work of electrical machine elements in cooperation with the Electric Drives team and other interfacing teams
• Based on requirements from System Designers deliver design prerequisites, technical regulations, contractual elements and compliance agreements with suppliers
• Requirement engineering with elements such as performance, efficiency, electric magnetic compatibility, electrical, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing and service requirements
• Responsible of electric machine geometry
• Quality assurance disciplines e.g. Failure Mode and Effects Analyses, Robust Engineering and data driven issue resolution
• Develop design validation and production validation methods, connect requirements to analysis and verification activities
• Participate in test activities and follow up on supplier verification
• Lead technical design reviews (internal and supplier joint reviews)
• Cost engineering and benchmarking
Your profile:
• University degree within product development or equivalent competence
• Job experience related to development of electrical machines or electrical drive systems
• Structured, data driven and well developed documentation skills
• Cooperative, transparent and good communication skills
• Business oriented
• Good English skills, verbally and in writing
