We are in a very interesting and challenging time with new technical solutions being introduced to meet our ambition to be a leader in the change towards a more sustainable transport industry. In this role you will be a key person to make our products ready for the future demands regarding fuel efficiency, emission legislation, and new fuels.
The valvetrain system is a central part of the combustion engine as it controls the flow of gases in and out of the cylinders. Its key components are camshaft, rocker arms and valves. The system also contains functions to adjust the valve lifts for engine brake mode. Our future engines, adapted for hybridization and alternative fuels might include valve systems with more advanced functions.
As Global System Responsible (GSR) you will be part a team responsible for development of the valvetrain system for Heavy Duty engines. The work includes all phases from advanced engineering, product development, industrialization, and supporting maintenance, quality and aftermarket issues. Some components are developed by suppliers which requires a tight collaboration with development suppliers. Other parts are developed in collaboration with our design and simulation groups. The work also requires a tight collaboration with other parts of engineering within Volvo group but also purchasing, manufacturing, quality and maintenance.
The position is placed in the Valvetrain and Auxiliaries group at Powertrain Engineering, located at Gropegårdsgatan in Gothenburg. The group is responsible for three different systems on Volvo group's heavy duty engines: Front End Auxiliary Drive System, Starter System, and Valvetrain System. We are a group of 10 people, of which 5 work with the Valvetrain system, with a diverse mix in age, background and gender.
We are a global company and we work in tight collaboration with colleagues in France, US, Brazil and Japan. You will be part of a network of highly skilled people around the globe working across functions and organisation within the Volvo Group and with suppliers.
Main Responsibilities
You are responsible for the functions and requirements of the system
You lead and coordinate Advanced Engineering and development activities in our projects
You take part in the collaborative network of Component Responsibles, other GSR's and chief engineers
You are responsible for the Roadmaps of the system, developed in a cross-functional collaboration, including Purchasing, Production, and Aftermarket
Profile
You have an open and positive attitude, you are flexible and able to take own initiatives
You are able to lead and coordinate engineering work internally and at suppliers
You are able to formulate and communicate road maps and strategic plans
The job is dependent of a good network within and outside the company; therefore your ability to communicate effectively and to work with persons on different levels and in different areas is essential
You have a relevant background in technology and product development and find yourself passionate about it
