Department: The Product development (PD) at GKN ePowertrain in Köping spans over six departments with expertise within project leading, simulation, noise-vibration and harness, prototyping, design, vehicle integration and physical testing. The product development drives the development of new products within the torque area for all-wheel drive cars. Currently, we are looking for a Thesis worker to the Physical test department

Background: At the Test department there are several different test rigs aimed to evaluate the performance of new and current PTUs and FDUs. Some of these rigs call for advanced PID-tuning to carry out the intended test in a correct way, and to a high quality.

One of the challenges faced in operating these test rigs, is to configure the test rig for a new test cycle. This is largely because of the iterative process that needs to be carried out to tune the PID to create a system that is stiff enough and responds appropriately. This is a rigorous, cumbersome and time-consuming process. Today, this process is carried out physically in the test rig.

Assignment description: The objective of this thesis will be to build a model/system that simulates/predicts the behavior of one of our 3M-test rigs for a given test cycle. Our aim by having such a model/system is that every new test cycle can be optimized prior setting it up in the test rig. This will save time and money, and optimize the work.

To succeed in the building the model/system one must understand the architecture of the PID controller of the test rig, and thoroughly investigate all the influencing factors of the rig response. This work will therefore call for close collaboration with engineers and technicians at the test department in GKN to in detail understand the rig functionality besides working with the building of the model in a suitable user interface.

Qualifications / Education: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic master, Engingeering Physics and Electrical Engineering or equalient.
