The Helsingborg Equine Referral Hospital, Sweden, is seeking a ECVS/ACVS board certified or board eligible surgeon.

This is a rare opportunity to replace an experienced surgeon in a busy surgery unit.

The hospital is Scandinavia's largest equine referral hospital and receives referrals from Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The hospital has stabling for approx 65 hospitalised horses, intensive care unit (3 stalls), a dedicated neonatal yard (15 stalls), Isolation unit (6 stalls).

Diagnostic facilities include a large bore CT for both standing and anaesthetised CT (about 235cases/year), endoscopy, dynamic endoscopy, gastroscopy, ultrasonography and CR and DR. A large lab for clinical pathology shared with the adjacent small animal hospital.

The lameness/out patient clinic has four examination rooms, full time farrier, three trot up corridors and two indoor arenas (large and small), and a state of the art kinematic lab with +20 high speed cameras covering an indoor arena and trot up corridor.

The surgical facility includes two surgical theatres, standing surgery, three recoveries (one for assisted recovery), and supporting facilities. Surgeries at all levels are performed in the hospital from basic wounds to advanced OA procedures. About 800 surgeries are performed yearly. The surgical population includes riding horses (all disciplines) and race horses (primary standardbred trotters) at all levels.

The hospital is located in the outskirts of Helsingborg (125.000 citizens). In close vicinity by car and train you will find Copenhagen (60min, international airport CPH), Malmö (45min) and Gothenburg (2hrs).

The hospital employs 18 equine veterinarians including one DiplECVS, one DiplACVIM, and has accepted residency programs for both ECVS and ECVEIM. The elective case load has primarily been shared between 2 surgeons.

For the right candidate, the position holds great potential for future influence and development. The hospital will in 2019 be renovated extensively including a completely new surgical facility.

The open position will include elective and emergency out of hours surgery. The successful candidate will have dedicated surgery days and days for diagnostics and be encouraged to build a case load in fields of special interest.
