Role Summary:
The EHS Director in Uppsala will have the overall responsibility for all EHS realted activities and issues within the allocated site and markets. The Director for EHS is a senior management position reporting directly to the site manager. The EHS function recieves strong attention within GE.
Essential Responsibilities:
The candidate we are looking for has outstanding skills in driving processes, manage implementation and secure quality over time.
More specifically this position will be responsible for:
• Ensuring the execution of GE EHS programs in all parts of the company, like Health & Safety Framework (HSF), Work Plan & Scorecard, Process Safety Management (PSM), Environmental Work Plans & Self Assessments
• Ensuring that the core objective is met regarding compliance at all times with all applicable laws, regulations and permit requirements
• Communicating effectively with the environmental/health and safety regulators, the site EHS-team and all other stakeholders
• Developing and managing the EHS organization, work and the site EHS-team
• Ensuring proper and timely reporting of incidents, accidents and events to the GE community and into GE Incident Management Systems
• Preparing, or coordinating permit amendments and or state construction permits for new facilities and plant expansions
• Management of contractors and Contractor Safety - Programs for Plants Expansions with stringent targets of low accident rates
• Developing and maintaining knowledge of Swedish EHS regulations
• Developing and providing training to plant personnel on EHS issues and communicating upcoming EHS issues to leadership team EHS annual planning and budgeting
• Developing and maintaining knowledge of plant processes and activities to assure continued compliance
Qualifications/Requirements:
• An Engineering degree, BSc, Ph.D., Master of Science or equivalent (e.g. chemical or environmental engineering, physics etc.)
• High integrity with desire to make an impact in the organization, always with a customer focused approach
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities and keen interest in people management and implementation of EHS in matrix organizations
• Team-oriented leadership style with good communication and interpersonal skills to embrace challenge and encourage teams to go the extra mile when needed
• Strong project leader, structured and well organized; excellent prioritizing skills
• Strong EHS management experience in a manufacturing facility, preferably chemical industry or related
• Communication and negotiation experience with EHS regulators Sound knowledge of process- and construction safety
• Well-grounded background in Environmental, Health and Safety programs
• Strong computer skills
Desired Characteristics:
• Six Sigma or LEAN Training and experience is a plus
