Engine Optimising Engineer - Thermal Management
At RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT you will be a key contributor to the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers over the world, you and your team will create innovative human-centric car technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. As ENGINE OPTIMISING ENGINEER - THERMAL MANAGEMENT, within the department Engine Controls & Calibration you will work in a group responsible to design our own software that control pumps and valves in order to heat up or cool down the engine. The thermal management area is new and expanding and it has high influence on fuel consumption and durability of the engine. You will have the chance to have a voice in what the customer experience in the car with respect to response, drivability and fuel consumption. The work is done on desktop, in engine rigs, on chassis dynamometers and you will also have opportunities to work on the road on test tracks in southern and northern Europe. Most work is performed from about three years prior to start of production and following the project all the way to production, but we also participate in system development in the early stages.
Job profile:
• Retrieve thermal requirements from other departments
• Improve and create software functionality to fulfil requirements
• Calibrate our area responsibilities in rigs and vehicles
• Verify our calibration on expeditions to various climates and altitudes
• Make plans for your activities in the projects
Your profile:
• University degree within Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Technology savvy with work experience or good common knowledge of engines
• Organised and structured in following up your work
• Accountable with attention to details
• Very good analytical ability
• Cooperative with strong interpersonal skills
• Strong communication skills and fluent in written and spoken English
• Experience in Matlab/Simulink and TargetLink is meritorious
• Experience from engine optimising software e.g. INCA-PC is meritorious
