We educate geographers and geoscientists who can fill the increased need for geoscientists in society. The Department has bachelor's and master's programs in geosciences and geography as well as postgraduate education with several geoscience specializations. Our research areas are climatology, biogeochemistry, petrology/geochemistry and applied geoscience.
The Department of Earth Sciences is looking for educational assistants for intermittent employment (hourly employment).
Duties
The work involves helping with courses in geology and geoscience. The tasks include, among other things, preparing the laboratory, including materials, in discussion with the course supervisor, which can take place both at the department and in the field. The implementation of the laboratory includes presenting the activity and supervising the students. Duties may include correcting students' labs. Participation in the research as support for various researchers may also occur.
As an educational assistant, there may also be tasks that involve contact with prospective students (basic level). For example, it could be assignments to "Shadow a student", participate as a student ambassador when a school class comes to visit, or contribute photos/films to our digital channels where you give an insight into what studying geosciences can look like.
Qualifications
We are looking for students within our own Department of Earth Sciences (primarily).
Applicants should have completed the course GV1410 or GE0400 or equivalent. Additional requirements may apply depending on the work tasks.
For teaching tasks, the following is desired: good knowledge of Swedish at level C1 and English and good computer skills. You can easily familiarise yourself with specific problems and come up with an alternative solution that you can communicate to the student. Previous experience in supervision is a merit.
You must have experience of laboratory work in some of the following, state which ones in the application:
• Bedrock mapping in the Gothenburg area
• Soil mapping in the Gothenburg area
• Mineral, rock and soil identification
• Grain size analysis (sieve, hydrometer and pipette)
• Petrographic microscopy
• Hydrogeological fieldwork in the Gothenburg area
• Simple hydro-chemical analyses in the laboratory and preparation of water samples
• Geographical information systems (GIS)
• Geophysical instruments such as resistivity, gravimetry, etc.
• Geochemical analyses (sample preparation, LA-ICPMS and SEM-EDS)
Employment
The position is an intermittent position, which means varying hours as needed during the period November 2023 to March 2024 Placement in the Department of Earth Sciences. Your official job title at the university will be assistant.
