Scania is undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transport solutions.

Scania 's department for Product and Interaction Design performs a central role in the creation and communication of Scania 's transformation towards driving the shift. By defining the product expression and customer experience, we keep the current platform up to date, whilst also staking out the future for our vehicles and services.

As Scania is now looking into expanding the business in China, a possibility of joining the appearance approval team is now open.

Your role

As a design quality specialist your main task is to verify that Scania's premium quality is secured throughout the individual parts of the vehicle. You will be an integrated and vital part of a small team of experts working within the appearance approval process (AAR).

Appearance approval is the verification of visual part quality before serial production approval, and is a part of the PPAP purchasing process.

You will inspect parts from pre-serial production in different steps, in order to verify quality demands and the correct appearance.

You will engage in much communication, both internally with part owners, design engineers and purchasers - but also externally with our suppliers and their tool makers.

Finding the right balance between quality, time and cost is the biggest challenge in this role - and it will require you to use your knowledge and experience to propose ways of improving the part quality within the set limitations of manufacturing processes, material selection and part design.

You will also take part in the early phases of product development, supporting design engineers and suppliers to define quality and discuss the best way for reaching the desired result.

For this particular position, you will support in getting the AAR-process in our new production site in China up and running. This is a great opportunity for you who want to experience living and working abroad, as shorter and longer periods (3-12 months) will be spent in China during the upcoming years. Other travelling may also be relevant. Initially you will be based in Södertälje and be trained and introduced there, also taking part in other projects.

Administration and logistics is also included in the role on a daily basis. Most of the work requires a physical presence in Södertälje (or other appropriate site) in order to have access to parts and the necessary facilities.

Your profile

We are looking for you who are meticulous and persevering. Having an ability to really focus on the details but also analyse and understand the bigger picture is crucial in this role. As communication, and to some extent education, is an important tool in your daily work - this needs to be something you are skilled at - both in written and spoken form.

In order to succeed in this role, you will also be greatly helped by

• Experience from mechanical design engineering, with a focus on plastic part design
• An interest and understanding of industrial design, and an insight into colour theory
• Good knowledge of component manufacturing, injection moulding, tooling requirements and its impact on lead times and costs
• Having worked with quality engineering or inspection in some form
• Fully functioning colour vision
• Being fluent in English, and a knowledge in Chinese is beneficiary

The most important thing for this role is the right mindset and a genuine interest in achieving a good result.

What we offer

You will work in a highly competent and motivated group with a high team spirit, with other design quality specialists, studio engineers and surface designers.

Within the section, you will have co-workers within automotive design, physical models, physical ergonomics and interaction design.

As a Scania employee, you are offered several benefits in addition to personal and professional development opportunities. These benefits include mutual bonus, company car, occupational pension, flexible working hours, lunch at reduced prices, electric car charging (at self cost) and much more. If you live in Stockholm, we offer a direct bus service between Stockholm and Södertälje, Scania Job Express.
