We are now looking for a Customs Specialist as an addition to our Global Data Management Team.

When joining our Global Customs Transactions, you will belong to the Global Customs & Export Controls function which is part of the wider Procurement & Supply Chain organization. Our purpose is to design, implement and operate a world class 'zero waste' supply chain, through data-driven analysis and intelligent customs and export controls design.

Volvo Cars Global Customs & Export Controls functions are organized into global teams based on deliverables instead of geographic locations. The role will report to the Customs Transactions Manager in EMEA but will be led by a global Data Management leader and will have colleagues in Belgium, China, Sweden and The United States.

The Customs Data Management team is the backbone of all activities within the Global Customs & Export Control team and is responsible for making all data necessary for compliant customs operations available within its systems timely, efficiently and of the highest quality.

The ability to improve processes by breaking them down to their basic levels and redesigning for a better outcome is a plus.

The purpose of the Customs Specialist, Data Management is to work collaboratively within the Volvo Car Customs Operations team to facilitate compliant import and export activities, while working at a global level to support delivery on the Global Customs and Export Controls strategy, which involves a shift in the way we do business to become a "best in class" customs and export controls team. To be successful in this role, the person must demonstrate an ability to think creatively, deliver on innovative solutions and serve as a role model to the team to lead the way on our journey of change.
What will you do?
Your principal authorities would be to develop and implement procedural improvements and implement solutions and corrective action to secure compliance.
When it comes to your daily tasks you will assign component HTS Classifications, ECCN Classification and relevant attributes to secure compliance at a global level.
Drive automation initiatives to improve the classification process and improve efficiency and work collaboratively with the team to set department goals and deliver on strategic improvements.
You will consistently demonstrate ownership of assigned projects and their delivery, monitor system exceptions and resolve issues as required and coordinate with other groups within supply chain management as necessary to resolve issues and improve data quality.
Develop and maintain work instructions to secure standardized processes and written processes and workflows within Volvos Business Management System (BMS), as well as prepare KPI's to ensure operational effectiveness.
Coordinate with external customs broker to ensure outsourced activities are compliant in accordance with Volvo standards will also be on your agenda. Further, you will also conduct and document internal audits in accordance with the audit plan for all relevant areas. This includes internal audits as well as those required for participation in government programs such as AEO/CTPAT etc.
You and your profile
To be successful in this role, the person must have five years Import/Export Experience and proven track record in Customs regulations. It is preferred to have an educational degree in logistics or similar field and possess knowledge in customs self-filing systems, such as MIC, as well as having a knowledge and experience with customs compliance processes.
You are service minded individual with good communication and coordination skills, have the ability to quickly assess complex critical situations. Problem-solving skills, a detailed and systematic approach to planning would help you to be successful in this role.
