hela Sverige The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Cryogenics Engineer position in the Target Division.
Description of division
The Target division has the responsibility to design, develop, procure, install and commission the systems needed to convert the energetic proton beam coming from the ESS accelerator to neutron beams that are utilized for experiments.
Description of main responsibilities
• As a cryogenic engineer for the Moderator and Reflector Systems, your main responsibilities are:
• Be responsible for requirements and deliverables as agreed with the Work Package Manager for the Moderator and Reflector Systems.
• Provide expertise within process, machinery and cryogenic system standards, design and operation
• Assess and define the systems and interface requirements
• Develop and coordinate engineering solutions that satisfy specified requirements
• Develop specifications for system tests and commissioning
• Serve as point of contact with in-kind partners, vendors, contractors and suppliers
• Supervise fabrication and delivery
• Manage installation of the cryogenic hydrogen system
• Write processes and procedures for operations as well as system maintenance
• Diagnose machinery and cryogenic system equipment during operation
• Monitor and perform adjustments to control functions, parameters and configurations for optimal process control, accuracy, availability and efficiency
• Coordinate emergency response work directives with multiple parties
• Improve guidelines and procedures for safe operations
• Document accurately and comprehensively all interactions and occurrences with respect to the cryogenic system
• During facility operation, be part of the on-call team for the cryogenic system operation
• It is foreseen that during commissioning, early operations and later in maintenance periods occasional shift work (including nights and weekends) is required. In the normal operation phase scheduled on-call service but no permanent physical presence at site is required during off-business hours.
Qualifications
• Bachelor in mechanical engineering (Master preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Extensive engineering experience within design and installation of medium to large size process systems and / or machinery like screw compressors, turbo compressors and expanders
• Engineering experience with the design, installation and operation of hydrogen systems is preferred
• Knowledge of project management, including project planning, project execution and project reporting
• Knowledge of radiation hazards and the nuclear field is desirable
• Experience in operation and maintenance of rotating machinery and process equipment in process plants, power plants or cryogenic systems is preferred
• Experience with EPICS or other similar distributed control systems is preferred
• Experience of working in an international environment is essential
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage
• Knowledge and experience of working within the Swedish legislation framework "AFS" is desirable

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
