The department of Safety Electronics has been a rapidly growing part of Volvo Car Group over the last decade. Active Safety is an area where Volvo, through continuous launching of new and innovative and world first safety features, has positioned itself among the leaders of the automotive industry. Now the work continues to reach our ambitious vision that by 2020 no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo. Within the department we develop systems such as Collision Avoidance, Autonomous Drive, Full Automatic Parking, Driver Support and Protective Safety. To do this we use sensor systems based on sensor technologies such as Radar, Laser, Ultrasonic, Cameras and Accelerometers. Through Sensor Fusion, these sensors are combined to create an awareness of the vehicle surroundings that can be used by various Driver Assist and Safety Functions to support the driver.
The section Preventive Safety within Safety Electronics has the mission to develop the next generation active safety system. We are involved in all aspects of the product development process, from early research and advanced engineering projects to industrialisation of the systems in accordance with Volvo Product Development System. Given the challenges and complexity within the Active Safety domain we are planning to add a Component Designer - Hardware engineer for coming industrialisation and advanced engineer programs.
As Component Design HW Sensor Engineer you will be a part of the team that is leading and securing the technical development of the next generation Active Safety/ADAS Systems. The component hardware engineer will focus on managing and securing the development of the camera HW parts in the Active safety system. The area of vision based sensing is a rapidly growing technology branch. Therefor it is of important to stay tuned with latest technical achievements within the industry. The development work is executed in a creative international environment in close cooperation with the supplier. At Volvo Car Group the opportunities for personal development are excellent as we have development centres in Sweden and China as well as a number of ongoing research projects.
Main responsibilities
• HW Responsible for vision based components
• Secure vehicle integration of camera based components. Many critical elements needs to be handled in order to optimise the performance of the vision based system
• Responsible for that the correct technical documents are developed and quality assured.
• Lead the HW design work for camera based systems in cooperation with the own team, other interfacing teams, and the suppliers
• Contribute in developing the need of analysis and verification plan
• Contribute to build-up of experience, by participation in the development of technology strategies within the area of competence
Required qualifications
• University degree, B.Sc or MSc in Electrical Engineering or similar
• Relevant job experience from hardware/sensor development
• Good knowledge about camera design (optics, imager, vision processing)
• Experience from structured work in a structured development process
• Experience from requirement management
• Good English skills, both verbally and written
• Driver's licence (B)

• A good communicator with ability to cope with many topics in parallel
