• To develop both corporate and programme communication material for a variety of audiences and for transposing this material into web and social media formats;
• To assist in the implementation of International IDEA?s communications strategy that supports the Institute?s mission, goals and objectives, ensuring consistent messaging for all internal and external communications;
Under the immediate supervision of the Communications Manager, the incumbent performs the following duties:
• Works closely with programme staff both at HQ and Field Offices ? Latin America, Africa, Nepal, and Southeast Asia and the Pacific programmes ? to identify and write up communication material of various kinds to update the website, feed into the social media, e-Newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, Annual Reports, and stories for the media;
• Identifies vignettes of information to update the institute?s web and social media sites on a daily basis;
• Drafts, finalizes and distributes the e-Newsletters;?Supports the communications and reporting work of External Relations by drafting and producing communications material that reports to donors and Member States on start up, progress, lessons learned, activities, outputs and outcomes for the purposes of fund raising initiatives;?Enhances relationships with the media in Sweden and abroad, as a key outlet for stories to promote knowledge about the activities and outcomes of international IDEA?s work;?Provides communications and media support to programme events worldwide;?Actively integrates the inclusion of a gender perspective in all programming activities;?Carries out other duties as assigned by the Communications Manager or any person designated by him/her.
Level and type of formal education:
• University degree in communications, journalism, international relations or a related subject.
Professional experience:
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience as a journalist or writer in communications for development, preferably in an international context.
Functional competencies:
• Excellent organising skills, ability to handle confidential information and to work in a multicultural team;
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, written and spoken;
• Proven experience in writing material for a range of traditional media and audiences, and for web and social media resources;
• Knowledge of international media and familiarity with mainstream and specialized media channels;
• Excellent interpersonal skills;
• Ability to work both independently, with minimum supervision and in teams;
• Ability to operate effectively in a multi-cultural environment and be Gender-sensitive.
Language skills:
• English: Fluent written and oral
• Knowledge of other widely spoken languages (in particular Spanish, Arabic, Swedish or French) would be an asset.
Computer skills:
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, databases, internet and web search tools.
• Knowledge of Dreamweaver, Photo Shop, InDesign and Adobe Acrobat would be an asset.
Terms of contract:
Level VII Local Post, Three (3) years fixed term appointment.
