The department Environment & Fluid Dynamics Centre is a part of complete vehicle organisation at Research & Development. Most parts at Research & Development develop systems and components, at Complete Vehicle Department we secure that these components will have the best attributes and be optimised for the customer.
At Fuel Economy we are working closely together with many of the design departments to ensure development of components and systems with efficient use of energy in the vehicle to ensure low fuel economy. We are working hard to give the best offer for the customer in terms of fuel economy and vehicle range. Most of our time we spend on project work to ensure best possible CO2 value for all cars. We are working with weight, aero, tires, electrical loads as well as powertrain, both regarding hardware and software. We are also very active in the phase before project start to define the project content. Volvo Cars are now in the process of significantly changing our way of working. Our aim is to reduce lead time by increase our possibility to do more and more verification of our products by simulations. This change is done all over the company right now and we are one of the main players to enable this. Our work can be seen in most advertises for Volvo Cars. They all have a CO2 value - and that value is our responsibility.
As CAE engineer you will be coordinating development of the VSIM, a Matlab and Simulink based tool which is continuously improved and updated to meet our needs regarding new technologies, regulations and markets. You will tool internally at the department and also together with the users from other departments at Research & Development. We are responsible for maintenance and development to enable and make the simulations easier for the engineers at Volvo Cars.
You will be our representative in the FPD+ team that develops new way of testing powertrain and our responsibility at Fuel Economy is to simulate the vehicle. This shall enable us to go from cars to HIL, SIL and MIL.
Main responsibilities
• Initiate and perform CAE model development in new areas and method development
• Coordinate and develop VSIM tool
• Participate in cross-functional projects and support with models and knowledge
• Communicate directly with design engineers, project leaders, experts and test engineers
• Stay up-to-date with new developments within modelling and new technology within the area
Required qualifications
• M Sc. in Mechatronics, Physics Engineering, Electronics or equivalent
• Good knowledge of Matlab, Simulink and Stateflow.
• Experience working with simulations or modelling
• Test or verification experience is meritorious
• Experience of product development and/or project leading is meritorious
• Driver's license
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
