CAE Engineer - Gas Exchange Analysis

The Engine CAE group is responsible for advanced technical calculations within the Engine Development department at Volvo Cars. The area of the group includes Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), structural analysis (FEM) and other types of mechanical analysis. Analyses are performed on different system levels such as complete powertrain, complete engine and engine components with the overall purpose of developing attributes, dimensioning components and virtually verify different technical solutions.
As CAE Engineer- Gas Exchange Analysis you will perform calculation based analysis on the gas exchange system of an internal combustion engine using one dimensional flow analysis. The analyses are carried out with the software GT-Power. When analysing the gas exchange system you model the intake, combustion, exhaust, and the boosting system in order to simulate engine performance, fuel consumption and emissions. All key attributes of an internal combustion engine. We are looking for someone that is analytical and has a genuine interest in advanced technical calculations and highly developed methods.

Main responsibilities

• Perform analysis on the complete gas exchange system using GT-Power
• Perform analysis of sub systems and components in the gas exchange system using GT-Power
• Evaluate results
• Report results
• Issue recommendations

Required qualifications

• Experience from analysis on the gas exchange system of an internal combustion engine using one dimensional flow analysis
• Master degree in Mechanical Engineering with focus on Automotive Engineering or Applied Mechanics
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Meritorious is experience from analysis using GT-Power, AVL/Boost or Wave.
• Meritorious is experience from analysis of the gas exchange system on petrol engines
