About the role
Your focus will be on accelerating the transition to sustainable energy through battery recycling. You will recognize development challenges, identify solutions, and deliver results in both laboratory and pilot-scale environments. This position involves developing and scaling cost-effective battery recycling methods. You will participate in business development, making contacts with customers and research partners to identify new projects. Working with companies to research and validate unique battery recycling processes requires innovative approaches and flexibility. Opportunities also exist to improve Li-ion battery or critical materials supply chains.
Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing laboratory and pilot-scale R&D operations.
- Identifying R&D needs, planning and executing experiments, and presenting findings.
- Developing new analytical methods and techniques.
- Training technicians and mentoring early-career professionals.
- Traveling to visit companies as needed.
- Writing proposals, quotes, and maintaining company relationships.
- Understanding national and European battery regulations and directives.
- Leading large European projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Networking and leading workshops.
The position is located in Stockholm.
Who are you?
To succeed in this role, you have diverse experience and the ability to solve materials challenges across molecular chemistry and have knowledge in one or more of the following fields: inorganic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, hydrometallurgy, metallurgy, ceramics, polymers, and composite materials. You enjoy working in a structured way, often in several different projects at the same time, and in close collaboration with customers and research partners. You have a business mindset, and you work in compliance with safety rules. It is essential that you have good documentation methods and practice.
- You need to have a PhD in metallurgy, materials science/engineering, inorganic chemistry, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years industrial experience/or equivalent post doc experience -or- master's degree in metallurgy, materials science/engineering, or chemistry with 5 years of industrial experience within relevant field.
- You have experience from working with hazardous chemicals.
You have a good understanding of the needs in the industry from a battery recycling perspective. Fluent in speaking and writing in English is mandatory. It is merited if you have knowledge in the following areas and techniques: lithium-ion batteries, materials characterization, running reactors, recycling, mineral processing, mechanical separations, and electrochemical separations.
