The ambition of Packaging Materials division is to be a global leader in circular economy with our high-quality renewable packaging materials based on both virgin and recycled fiber. Addressing the needs of today's eco-conscious consumers, we help customers and brand owners to find the best material for their packaging and to replace fossil-based materials with low carbon footprint, renewable and recyclable alternatives. A wide selection of barrier coatings enables the design and optimisation of packaging for various demanding consumer and industrial packaging end uses.
Stora Enso has more than 400 scientists working at research centres in Finland and Sweden as well as the Innovation Centres for packaging and biomaterials. Additionally, we have various cooperation agreements with Aalto University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Chalmers University, Rennovia Inc., Wallenberg Wood Science Centre and SweTree Technologies. We work with start-ups through our businesses and the Stora Enso Accelerator programme. We are also active in a number of national, European and trade associations focused on the bioeconomy and forestry agendas.
We are now looking for a Barrier Specialist to join our Research Centre in Karlstad. The unit belongs to the Innovation and R&D organisation within the Packaging Materials Division.
Tasks
The main responsibilities for the position are:
• To support the optimization of existing- and development of new barrier coated products which meets the demands in terms of recyclability, processability and final packaging performance.
• In co-operation with Sales, Production lines and R&D co-operate in or initiate, manage and follow up projects with emphasize on barrier development for packaging materials.
• Actively follow the development in Barrier Coating Technology as well as in the related area polymer technology.
• Plan and implement trials on both pilot and full-scale coating machines
• Act as specialist in R&D related issues in the areas of barrier coating and polymer chemistry within the Stora Enso organisation.
• Support the business organization regarding barrier properties analysis, specifically the interrelation between features in the base materials and the final barrier and end use performance in various packaging applications.
• Create and maintain contacts to external R&D partners in Universities and other Research Institutions, raw material and equipment suppliers
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you have a Master of science (or equivalent knowledge) in preferably polymer chemistry or chemical engineering. We see that this role needs a minimum of 5 years' experience in specialist, project or line management positions in at least one of the fields of polymers, extrusion coating or dispersion coating.
You have Co-operative skills, as well as ability to act as co-worker or leader of projects in collaboration with colleagues within as well as outside Stora Enso. Ability to function in a matrix organization. You have Good ability to actively market, sell and communicate the results from projects to internal customers.
Finally, you also have strong analytical skills and you are fluent spoken and written English; other languages are appreciated
