Akademistatistik - Centre for Applied Biostatistics - is a research group at the Department of
Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Institute of Medicine. Akademistatistik has a faculty
assignment for the Sahlgrenska Academy, where the team coordinates and provides training at all
levels of applied statistics as well as contributing with statistical expertise in other research
groups within the Academy and Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
Akademistatistik also coordinates a network of statisticians at the Sahlgrenska Academy with
seminars and own research. Both courses and research is highly interdisciplinary and conducted
in close collaboration with other professionals such as doctors, pharmacists, nurses,
psychologists, behavioral scientists, chemists and others. We often work with large
epidemiological population studies, but also with smaller intervention studies.

Job assignments
Independently plan and conduct training in applied biostatistics. Own research (50% of full
time), preferably specializing in statistical method development.
Eligibility
PhD. Priority should be given to candidates who have completed their PhD no more than five
years before the last date for applications.
Assessment
Primarily scientific skills. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a Master's degree
in Statistics / Mathematical statistics. Familiarity with the statistical methods used in
epidemiological and experimental studies is an advantage. Experience from SAS, SPSS or similar
software is central.
Teaching experience in applied statistics in medicine and health, preferably including course
development, and completion of courses in pedagogics for higher education is desirable, as
experience in applied research, statistical method development and experience in statistical
consulting.
In addition, special emphasis will be placed on excellent communication skills and ability
explaining statistical concepts and methods for non-statisticians.
In case of application for promotion to senior lecturer, the following assessment will be made:
Primarily scientific skills. The second assessment criteria will be pedagogical skills. Development
of at least three courses at undergraduate or graduate level, course director for ten courses,
completion of the basic courses in pedagogics for higher education (15 credits), participation in
two major research projects outside the home group and contribution to the statistical consulting
business.
