hela Sverige Are you an experienced organic chemist with profound interest in advanced synthetic chemistry and would like to be a leader of this area? Are you excited by challenging, creative chemistry and pioneering technology? Then you might be the one we are looking for! Join us and apply your expertise in a company that follows the science and turns ideas into life-changing medicines.
At AstraZeneca, you will be empowered to be innovative and creative where difference is valued. We thrive in a place where the brightest and most curious minds seamlessly come together in our inclusive environment.
We now have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Principal Scientist within the Medicinal Chemistry department in the therapeutic area Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (Early CVRM). In this role you are expected to lead science and collaborate with the global team of scientists dedicated to advancing the field of synthetic chemistry relevant to Medicinal Chemistry, including high throughput experimentation (HTE), green/sustainable chemistry, bio-catalysis, chemical biology and much more.
The use of innovative synthetic chemistry allows the development of efficient and sustainable processes by enabling efficient routes towards drug discovery compounds. We expect the successful candidate to have experience in a range of technologies such as photo/electrochemistry, C-H functionalization, and general knowledge on green and sustainable synthetic chemistry.
The role will be based at AstraZeneca's dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden and be an integrated part of the chemistry community.
What you'll do
The role is primarily lab-based and focused on delivering synthetic chemistry to impact AstraZeneca's portfolio of drug projects. In a highly cross-disciplinary environment as part of an open-minded, creative team in Medicinal Chemistry you will seek out the most appropriate methods for carrying out experimental work to a high standard, including using relevant automation. You will provide leadership in synthesis, related workflows, and equipment and work collaboratively internally and globally to help to design, develop, and implement best practice. Through your synthetic chemistry skills you will be an integral member of the design teams and influence next generation molecules to be made in drug discovery projects.
You will be active in evaluating and implementing cutting edge technologies and workflows via external collaborations and internal science and technology projects and help build the strategic direction.
You will be an emerging leader within synthesis on the international arena and be supported to build your network and external profile further as you are expected to take part of external collaborations and publish scientific papers. There will be opportunities for mentorship and supervision of students and post-docs.
Essential for the role
We are looking for a person who is a passionate and excellent synthetic chemist and who has the ability to think innovatively, drive improvement and support development of co-workers.
To be successful in this role you need to be highly self-motivated and capable of analyzing complex data and to decide on next course of action. You also need to possess excellent teamwork skills and a demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams. It's important to have excellent communication and strategic influencing skills including scientific writing.
