We are a truly cross functional team with a mix of people from different areas; chassis, cab, electrical & wiring, software, chief project managers and also vehicle and geometrical architects.

The Special Vehicles Development organization dedicated to Volvo Trucks brand in Sweden is responsible to develop low volume solutions and specific customized offers for Volvo Heavy Duty ranges (FH, FM, FMx) also including Volvo Defense.
Special Vehicles Development is also a major contributor to innovation project for the Volvo group with development of demo-trucks and staggered introduction of new technologies (e-mobility, automation and connectivity).
Our way of working is lean and based on agile principles, we continuously develop and implement innovative ways of working to secure high performance in time to market, quality and reduced development costs for all our products.
A Vehicle Architect at Special Vehicles Development
As a Vehicle Architect at SVD you take lead in understanding complete vehicle demands and solutions. You together with other team members or experts in the company contribute and sometimes lead the technical solution on complete vehicle level that satisfy the customer needs. A good dialogue and cooperation with experts in various engineering areas is vital.
Project prerequisites are not all set from the beginning and rather than spending time waiting for a complete plan you take action. You don't only listen to the voice of the costumer, you rather have a good dialog with the customer to be able to focus on what matters. You have confidence in proposing the initial concepts and can communicate and gather the cross functional team to embrace your idea.
With broad technical skills you understand on a practical and theoretical level how different solutions affects the project stakeholders and will appropriately navigate in your social network to involve the expertise needed. You will operate both within the team and being the interface to stakeholders.
You are a person with high engagement and with a drive to create the new and different, that can take a creative idea and put it into practice. You easily take initiatives and are also comfortable to take sometimes complex decisions. As speed in execution is key, you are using your previous experience with confidence to do the right thing at the right time supporting to secure the project deliveries.
Required knowledge/experience
We see that you have experience from architecture type of work or similar and also a good product knowledge of the Volvo Heavy Duty products.
Competences required for this role:
University education within Engineering or similar
Good knowledge within Mechatronics
Experience in truck configuration and specification
Volvo product development process
Previous experience in design engineering
Experienced user of Volvo specific tools
