hela Sverige The Utilities & Test Stands Section at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for two "Technician for Water Cooling Systems" positions.
Description of section
The Utilities & Test Stands Section within the Specialized Technical Services Group works alongside other groups in the Accelerator Division to define, design, install, commission and finally operate and maintain the accelerator cooling water systems, accelerator conventional electrical systems, and test stands at ESS. The group is also responsible for design of water cooling systems for the Neutron Instruments Division.
Main responsibilities
• Assist in installation activities of the accelerator and neutron instruments water-cooling systems.
• Assist in the design and standardisation of water cooling
• Assist in procurement of tools and auxiliary equipment required for maintenance and operation
• Participate in commissioning and acceptance testing, including collecting and reviewing documentation
• Perform changes and modifications of water cooling systems
• Perform maintenance tasks as required
• Monitor and operate the water cooling systems, such as demineralization units, pumps, instrumentation manifolds, etc.
• Assist in writing and improving guidelines and procedures for safe operations
• Document accurately and comprehensively all interactions and occurrences with respect to the water cooling systems
You will support the cooling system engineers and design engineers communicate with colleagues, consultants and suppliers to ensure safe and timely commissioning and stable operation of the relevant equipment and processes of the ESS machine. Training for special maintenance tasks and operation activities will be provided.
Qualifications
A technical degree in process systems maintenance and operation (KY) or similar experience gained through installation and maintenance of pumping systems, air-coolers, chillers/heat-pumps or HVAC systems. Ideally you should be a hands-on mechanic with an interest in thermodynamics of cooling systems and chemistry of deionized water systems.
At least 3 years practical experience and know-how in several of the following fields is mandatory:
• Familiarity with ordinances from the Swedish Arbetsmiljöverket with respect to process plants and pressurised equipment, such as AFS 2005: 3, AFS 2002: 1
• Installation, operation and maintenance of process related systems in process plants, power/thermal plants, chillers, heat-pumps or similar facilities
• Proficiency in reading and understanding piping and instrumentation diagrams, isometric drawings, mechanical drawings and basic electrical diagrams
• Proficiency in process related instrumentation and experience with process related components such as valves, fittings, gaskets, filters, demineralization systems, pumps
• Handling of chemicals related to process systems, including safety procedures
• Knowledge and experience with troubleshooting variable frequency drives, motors, PLC's
The following areas are seen as advantageous:
• Experience with deionized water-cooling systems
• Experience in welding, welding inspection and documentation
• Experience in mechanical design, piping design, and CAD tools
Excellent oral and written Swedish and English skills are a prerequisite. Experience of working in an international environment is essential

When planning and organising your work, you can easilly identify and coordinate resources needed to accomplish tasks, and you have the ability to work productively in a pressurised environment.
It is expected that during commissioning, early operations and later in maintenance periods occasional shift work (including nights and weekends) is required. In the normal operation phase scheduled on-call service but no permanent physical presence at site is foreseen during off-business hours.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
