Technician

Location: Institute of Biomedicine, Göteborg

Sahlgrenska Cancer Center is a newly formed center within the University of Gothenburg with close proximity to Sahlgrenska University hospital in Sweden. The center is part of a strategic research focus on cancer within the Sahlgrenska Academy and consists of an exciting mix of basic and clinical research dedicated to multidisciplinary studies of cancer with highly set translational ambitions.

Tumors, including breast cancer and sarcoma, represent many different diseases with partly contrasting clinical behaviors and underlying genetic alterations. In order to define novel and more efficient treatment schedules for tumors as well as define the subgroup of patients that will benefit from a particular treatment we need to know more about the basic defects occurring in cancer. It is also clear that the microenvironment influences the tumor cells and behaviors and certain subgroups of tumor cells denoted cancer stem cells possess important features regarding tumor aggressiveness. Within the projects you will be a key person designing, optimizing and running single cell PCR analyses. You will further support and be of assistance in the sorting and selection of single cells from cell cultures and model systems. Within the project there will be a focus on breast cancer and sarcomas but other tumor types might be used to gain additional insights in the interplay between key tumor properties and cancer stem cell characteristics.

One joint PCR technician position is now available in Professor Göran Landberg's and Associate Professor Anders Ståhlberg's research groups at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center. The specific project will focus on tumor heterogeneity and transcriptome analysis with a focus on single cell analysis. Within the main project key tumor properties is studied including the interplay between microenvironment and tumor cells, cancer stem cells and tumor drug resistance. Our long-term goal is to improve diagnostics and develop new treatments for cancer. Our work is focused on breast cancer and sarcomas.

Job assignments
The position is experimentally oriented towards gene expression profiling. Assay development, running quantitative single cell PCR analyses and basic data analysis are expected to be performed on a daily basis. The work will be directly coupled to ongoing research projects and the ability to interact and collaborate is essential. The successful applicants will be a fully trained technician or engineer with a master examination or equivalent in a suitable subject. Experience in RNA handling, quantitative PCR and data analyses is required and experience in bioinformatics is desirable.
