Technical Specialist Charging Technology

The Electric Drive and Power Supply section is responsible for System, HW and SW design of all High Voltage Electric Drives and Power Supply Systems in Volvo Cars R&D division. The Electric Drives and Power Supply are one of three sections in Electric Propulsion Systems of the EEEP unit. Electric Drive System includes Electrical Machines and Inverters. Power Supply System includes Converters and Chargers. Currently we are approximately 50 employees organised in three groups and a leadership team.

We are now looking to add a Technical Specialist Charging Technology since the growing market of Plug-in Hybrids and electric vehicles demands charging technology in the technological forefront, matching and pushing the electrical energy and services infrastructures. Increased technology and leadership skills are required as the working teams are growing and need expert guidance to unite the efforts. Electric Propulsion systems and its technology is one of the most exciting and growing areas in the automotive business and we will expand our offers to deliver a range of products with electric propulsion systems.

Main responsibilities

• Deliver Vision, Mission and Strategy
• Develop and manage the foundation of System requirements and design strategies for Charging and Power Supply Systems
• Capture business and technology trends, perform competitor analyses, benchmark and supplier assessments
• Lead product and business strategy work
• Take active part and push charging standardisation in line with Volvo Cars strategies
• Manage technology roadmaps and lead strategic discussions with suppliers
• Lead concept development, sizing and optimal design trade-off work for Charging and Power Supply systems
• Develop analytical system engineering methods and tools for the design of Charging and Power Supply Systems
• Lead and mentor continuous development of Design Guidelines
• Drive annual work/studies. Formulate AE/OD needs and means
• Initiate and lead AE/Research projects and OD in order to ensure Readiness of Key+ Technology
• On request realise the SA role
• Proactively advice line management, provide engineering guidance and be recognized as a go-to person
• Maintain and drive cross-functional work with adjacent R&D departments, PPL, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Service
• Deliver education material, teaching activities and being a speaker at conferences

Required qualifications

• M.Sc. or equivalent based on work experience
• 8 years of hands-on work in related technology area and product development through all development phases
• Expert of technology content and customer value chains
• Skills to drive design trade-offs of functions/systems concerning vehicle and charging infrastructure
• High results orientation and ability to think conceptually
• Comprehensive experience from standardisation work

Personal qualities

• Demonstrated high level of communication skill, teamwork and negotiation skill
• Demonstrated capability to lead an internal team in the delivery of technical objectives
• High ability to drive and implement change
• Product, Business and customer oriented
