Overall purpose of the job
Tools and Technology is responsible for deploying new equipment, hardware and software to NAVTEQ’s field data collection organization. This includes, for example, Global Positioning Systems, Inertial Measurement Units, Video Cameras, In-Car PCs and Map Editing Software.
The Systems Engineer will work with DMO Field, Production stakeholders and Product Management to operate specialized tools and apply specific domain expertise to enable rapid or batch loading of content to the NAVTEQ database.
The Systems Engineer will also work with NA/EU Managers, Global Production Model team, MFE (Manufacturing Engineering), research and development, Field/Production departments, and business process owners to analyze immediate and future technology needs; evaluate and recommend solutions.
Principle duties and responsibilites
Examine source data and map to NAVTEQ data
Write, test and run scripts to extract third party data from any data source.
Write, test and run scripts to normalize and prepare third party data for Geocoder programs
Run Geocoder programs
Review and verify output Data results
Create transaction files for Address Batch Update programs
Directly communicate and work with non technical end users to iteratively improve and explain Geocoding results.
Troubleshoot Geocoding runtime problems and assist in Geocoding program development
Participate in new tool development and/or improvements to existing tools.
Requirements
3+ years of SQL programming experience in an Oracle environment is mandatory. PL/SQL programming experience would be an advantage.
5+ years general computer skills: MS Office, MS-DOS, UNIX
Knowledge of Oracle Server Administration; back-up strategies would be an advantage.
Familiar with executing scripts and applications through SQLPLUS, TOAD (or other developer tools) and MS-DOS Command Prompt.
Familiar with executing SQLLDR
Good communication skills, must be fluent in written and oral English.
Good analytical skills (relational and spatial)
Ability to communicate technical details to Business Users.
Ability to quickly learn new schemas (NAVTEQ database schema) and about country addressing specifics.
Java programming would be an advantage.
GIS knowledge would be an advantage.
PowerCenter and FME knowledge would be an advantage.
Previous Geocoding experience would be an advantage.
