Caterpillar Propulsion’s Control Systems department is looking for their next strong SW engineer experienced in programming of embedded electronics systems. The department is responsible for all development of our control systems which control the powertrain of our customers’ ships. Caterpillar Propulsion has a long tradition of constructing both electronics and software and the control system is an important component of our product offering.
As SW Engineer you will work throughout the entire development process, from needs analysis and requirements specification to verification and delivery of the finished product. At times you might also be involved and present as a systems expert when implementing our new systems on our customers’ ships. Today's systems are modular with several redundant nodes that are distributed over the vessel and communicate via digital buses. You will work as part of a team but you will also manage independent projects.
Main responsibilities
• Responsible for planning and conducting independent software development projects according to technical-, cost- and time requirements
• Analyse needs and set up requirement specifications of new software development projects
• Develop control system functionality/software
• Verification of developed control system/software
• Continuous change management together with group to develop and improve our the efficiency
Required qualifications
• Technical BSc degree or higher within Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar
• Experience from software development embedded electronics systems/C programming
• Experience or knowledge of all phases of a SW development cycle
• Used to version management systems like Subversion or similar
• Skilled in project management
• Fluent English (written and spoken)
• Knowledge from the following tools and technologies is meritorious: UML, Python, Freescale CodeWarrior, Visual Studio, Trac, Visio, LyX, Debian Linux, RS-485 and CAN

• You have a wide technical interest and always strive to get a holistic technical understanding
• You enjoy responsibility, are a team player and like having customer contact
• Self-going and able to lead development efforts, with a strong delivery orientation
• Well organised and structured and quality-conscious
• Strong analytical skills and a great problem solver
• Strong communication skills to match the demands of an international work environment
