AstraZeneca R&D have been curious about oligonucleotides as a new modality since 2012 and our scientific interest has grown. Therefore, we are now poised to leverage on the wealth of expertise from across our R&D units and through a new matrix organisation to deliver a proprietary Oligonucleotide Therapeutics Platform in-house. Pharmaceutical Sciences is a function within the AstraZeneca Biopharmaceuticals R&D unit that creates innovative, efficient solutions by transforming molecules into investigative medicines meeting unmet needs of future patients. The function has four departments: Early Chemical Development, Advanced Drug Delivery, Early Product Development and Manufacturing, and Data Science and Modelling. Our wide-ranging portfolio of projects includes traditional small molecules, nucleotide-based therapies and nano medicines across AstraZeneca's therapy areas.
Early Chemical Development (ECD) is a world class CMC department with responsibility for early phase Drug Substance. The department's responsibilities span from early engagement with Discovery Chemistry groups to manufacture of Phase II Clinical material, and its key skill areas include Analytical Chemistry, Crystallisation, Isotope Chemistry, Large-Scale Laboratory (Kilo-Lab) Manufacturing, Process Chemistry, Process Design, Process Engineering, Route Design and Separation Science. The Separation Science Laboratory supports the design and evaluation of new candidate drugs through purification and characterization of small molecules and New Modalities ranging from microgram to kilogram scale.
As part of the Oligonucleotide capability build expansion, we are now looking for an Senior Scientist to join our fantastic team in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Who are you?
We are looking for a candidate with a background in Analytical Chemistry with demonstrated expertise applied to the purification and characterization of synthetic Oligonucleotides. We are looking for a candidate who is a specialist in this area. This is a lab-based role where you will facilitate the delivery of Oligonucleotides with right quality to our portfolio projects.
Essential for the role:
* PhD in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent experience from industry
* Significant practical experience in Oligonucleotide or biomolecule analytical measurement and purification science
* Knowledge of the synthesis and manufacturing environment for Oligonucleotides
* Strong collaborative and communication skills with ability to operate across functional boundaries
* Strong influencing and prioritisation skills to ensure timely delivery
* Excellent English, both spoken and written
Desirable for the role:
* Experience from working with preparative chromatography, both low and high pressure
* Knowledge in different analytical techniques; e.g. IP-LC, HILIC, IEX, SEC, LC/MS and high-resolution mass spectrometry
* Hands-on experience from solid phase synthesis of Oligonucleotides
* Interest in automation and data processing
