hela Sverige The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.
Division
The research will be conducted in the Unit of Lung and Airway Research at IMM with the supervision of Professor Anders Lindén, Head of Unit.

The research unit focuses on understanding pathogenic alterations of pulmonary host defense in chronic airway disorders including COPD, asthma and chronic bronchitis, in particular how long-term exposure to environmental factors contribute to these alterations in human patients.
The position is time limited to 11 months.
Duties
The candidate is expected to have broad knowledge and expertise in the science of immunology, data gathering and analysis as well as manuscript preparation. The candidate must be highly motivated, have good communication skills, and ability to interact in a dynamic group. Very good knowledge of English is a prerequisite. Moreover, the successful applicant should show a high level of responsibility and independency, and be able to establish and carry out their own research line within the ongoing research activities in the Unit of Lung and Airway Research. Previous experience from the successful preparation of grant applications is expected.
The scientific focus for this appointment will involve research on the inter-relationship between the IL-36 cytokine family, Th17-associated cytokines, and chronic airway obstruction. Prior research experience in the field of respiratory host defense, especially research involving Th17 and IL-36 family mechanisms, is of great importance. As research within the unit is both clinical and translational in nature, prior clinical experience, particularly in the area of respiratory medicine, will be assessed favorably.
Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented subsequent research publicly.
The applicant is to have been well-published in internationally leading journals in his/her field, and occupied a prominent place in the list of authors, preferably as first or senior author. He/she should also occupy a notable place in the international scientific community, for example as a presenter or speaker at scientific conferences or as a peer-reviewer of papers submitted for publication or grant applications. The applicant should have a demonstrated ability to obtain external financing, including funding from international sources.
