hela Sverige The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.
Division
The research at the Unit of Epidemiology is focused on advancing knowledge about disease etiology and prognosis with an emphasis on environmental and lifestyle factors, and on methodological development and stringency.
The research is based on large register based cohorts, as well as cohorts and case-control studies with extensive information from questionnaires and biological samples.
Duties
The researcher is expected to conduct epidemiologic research in ageing epidemiology and in the intersection of epidemiology and demography. The researcher is expected to supervise PhD students, and to take responsibility for teaching epidemiological theory and methods both at the Master level and at the Doctoral program in Epidemiology. The researcher is expected to write grant applications and to have received own research grants.
Entry requirements
A person is eligible for the researcher position if they have been awarded a Degree of Doctor or have achieved the corresponding scientific competence, and completed a postdoc position. The persons appointed should primarily be one who have been granted a Degree of Associate Professor/Docent or achieved similar qualifications.
We see that the candidate has following qualifications:
- A PhD in medical science in the area of epidemiology
- Appointed Associate Professor/Docent within Epidemiology or similar qualifications
- Substantial experience in register based epidemiologic research
- Experience in ageing epidemiology and ageing research
- Substantial experience in handling large databases, including health data registers and population registers
- Experience with writing and publishing scientific papers
- Received own external research grants
- Experience with collaborative projects and working with national and international collaborators
- Experience in teaching epidemiological methods and supervision of PhD students
- Experience in performing trend studies
- Experience in demographic methods
Other meritorious competences are experience with the statistical software SAS and/or Stata, experience as course director at master or PhD level and supervision of PhD students.
The applicant will need to feel comfortable with working in teams and demonstrate good interpersonal skills but also be independent enough to formulate new hypotheses and critically examine the results.
