You will be part of HVDC within the Power Systems division in Ludvika. The HVDC technology has been on the market for the past 60 years and is used to transmit power over long distances with minimal losses, using overhead lines, underground and submarine cable systems. As R&D Engineer on insulation technologies you will part of the R&D team at Global product group HVDC. The team is responsible for support to development projects within HVDC and coordination of HVDC-related insulation activities at global Corporate Research Centers.

As R&D engineer you will be expect to fulfill the following tasks and skills:
• Provide support to the Insulation expert with electric field calculation, breakdown voltage and system studies.
• Understand the insulation principles to be able to apply the design rules according to ABB criteria.
• Be able to understand international standards (IEC, CIGRE, IEEE, etc.) and its application to the HVDC business.
• Be able to evaluate customer specification and propose technical-economical solutions.
• Capable to perform 3D Electric field calculation and be familiar with different FEM tools
• Familiar with scientific literature search tools.
• Thermal and Dielectric capabilities of insulation systems
• Create intellectual property to protect our technologies
• Be able to communicate and express your ideas with clarity
• Have a team work spirit

You hold a PhD degree in High voltage technology, Electrical Discharge, Discharge Physics or equivalent. Experience on High Voltage Measurement and Test technique will be a plus. Since we work in an international environment, it is important that you are fluent in English, written and spoken alike.
