hela Sverige The Associate Director for Strategy of the European Spallation Source ERIC in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a position of a Senior Officer for Industry and Innovation.
Supported by EU-funding ESS has developed an innovation framework that is part of its management system. A technology transfer function has been established, an innovation strategy has been developed and first innovation activities have been carried out. Continued funding of the European Commission will allow ESS to advance its innovation activities and dedicate more resources to it.
Description of directorate/division
The Senior Officer for Industry and Innovation will work in a small team that reports to the Associate Director for Strategy, who is in charge of strategic and operation activities related to external relations and stakeholder engagement, the In-kind, innovation and grants management. This fixed-term position is linked to the Horizon 2020 grant BrightnESS2 and terminates on 31.12.2021.
Description of main responsibilities
Leading Work Package 4 "Industry and Innovation" of the BrightnESS2 grant and ensuring its implementation on time and budget. This includes:
• Rolling out the ESS Innovation Strategy, refining as appropriate and ensuring the buy-in of internal and external stakeholders
• Working with ESS staff and partners to help turn innovative scientific and engineering technologies into new products and services
• Identification of commercial strategies for transferring technologies to industry including supporting proof-of-concept activities to potential end-users
• Negotiating appropriate licensing contracts in conjunction with the Legal function at ESS
• Establishing of an Innovation culture at ESS
• Setting-up a strategic roadmap for ongoing technological up-grades at ESS
• Developing and implementing of a long-term strategy to utilize the innovation potential of the ILO Network at ESS
• Fostering cross-border collaboration between ILOs
• Supporting the preparations for industrial users by the ESS Science Directorate
Qualifications
We expect the applicants to have the following experience and qualifications:
• Proven professional experience (7-10 years) from a similar role, including the setting up of an innovation programme at a research infrastructure or similar organisation
• Academic degree in a subject relevant to the portfolio of the tasks
• Grasping technical concepts quickly, and working with others to translate these into commercially viable proposals
• Solid understanding of the supply sector for research infrastructures
• Successfully negotiating and licensing commercial contracts with industry
• Ability to earn respect and standing to act as an internal champion and external ambassador of the industry and innovation portfolio
• Proven project management skills, including responsibilities for financial management and reporting
• Experience in working with international, cross-functional teams
• Adaptable, flexible, entrepreneurial, highly motivated, and capable of successfully pushing the industry and innovation programme of ESS forward
• Excellent oral and written English skills

Duration & Location
The position is a fixed term position linked to the Horizon 2020 grant BrightnESS2 and terminates on 31.12.2021.
Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
