Business administration is one of the major disciplines at Mälardalen University. Studies in Business and Economics at the Department of Business and Social Studies is one of four areas of education with approximately 1250 full-time students enrolled in one of six educational programs. The Department of Business and Social Studies has two EPAS accredited programs. Research and post-graduate education is conducted in the area of Industrial Economics and Management, which is one of the six research specializations at the university. Today the faculty consists of three professors, six associate professors, 17 senior lecturers and nine doctoral students. Research is focused on accounting; organizational theory and leadership; marketing, international business and entrepreneurship; economics and political science. Research is conducted in close cooperation with partners both in the private and public sector, and is based on extensive national and international academic collaborations, mainly funded by external research grants.
Position description
The appointee is expected to undertake research and teaching to develop and carry out courses on both undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervise students on various levels especially in the subject of management accounting. The appointee is also expected to contribute to the development of the subject, and participate in the development of the department. The appointee is also expected to take an active responsibility to further developing a creative environment and for advancing both research and education. The appointee is expected to have a long-term commitment to different development initiatives and to apply for external research funding both for his or her research projects as well as for colleagues and new doctoral students. The senior lecturer is also expected to contribute to the management accounting group's further development.
Qualification requirements
The qualification requirements for appointment as a Senior Lecturer are both documented teaching skills and also a degree of Doctor, or equivalent academic competence or other professional qualifications of significance with regard to the subject content of the appointment and the duties included in the appointment.
To be qualified for appointment as a Senior Lecturer the applicant must have demonstrated the academic skills and teaching abilities required for the appointment. Academic skills may also have been demonstrated by the ability to achieve results in research through cooperation in joint projects of benefit to academia and industry/the public sector/society in general and through the ability to disseminate research.
The assessment of teaching skills shall apply to the planning, carrying out and evaluation of teaching as well as supervision and examination. Teaching skills shall be well documented in such a way that their quality can also be assessed.
The applicant should have completed ten weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. A person appointed as a Senior Lecturer but lacking training in higher education teaching and learning will be offered in-house training during the first year. The course in higher education teaching and learning at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of training.

Assessment criteria
In general terms, the assessment criteria shall be based on the degree of skills required for the appointment. In general terms these assessment criteria shall include the ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to fulfil the duties well.
The same attention shall be paid to the assessment of teaching skills as to the assessment of academic skills.
The assessment criteria shall be based on excellent teaching, productive research targeted at competitive accounting journals and professional service to the Department, School, and University.
Applicants that do not speak Swedish by the time of application must, in three years time, be prepared to accept assignments which require an understanding of the Swedish language.

Merit
Experience in conducting research in cooperation both within academia and externally with partners in the private and public sector is regarded as a merit, together with the demonstration by publications in international top-ranked journals and the ability to present and inform about research results.
