The department is a multidisciplinary teaching and research environment comprising eight subject areas: European Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Gender Studies, International Migration and Ethnic Relations (IMER), International Relations, Caucasus Studies, Human Rights and Political Science. The department?s degree programmes and research activities focus on global processes of change and the specific and evolving consequences for societies and individuals.
Duties/responsibilities
The position involves teaching, supervision and research in the areas of international law, human rights law, and international relations. Of particular importance is to relate expertise in these areas to recent and current developments, including civil societal organizing, in the Middle East in general and in Syria in particular, and to also relate these to conditions and law in refugee recipient countries in Europe, particularly the Nordic countries. The teaching responsibilities may include lecturing and conducting seminars at undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as curriculum development. Research duties involves engaging with topics of concern within the Department and the University at large. See more information:

In order to qualify for this position, the candidate must have:
1 A PhD in law, with a specialization in international public law, or another subject relevant to the position, or equivalent academic merits or other professional competence of relevance and importance to the post advertised.
2 Documented competence of teaching and pedagogical development in this field.
3 Collaboration skills and an ability to engage with actors outside academia.
For this specific position, the candidate must have:
1 Competence, within the field of international law or human rights law, pertaining to developments in the Middle East in general and in Syria in particular.
2 Knowledge of and/or experience with civil society organizations, including non-governmental organizations, working for the promotion of international law and/or human rights in Syria and the Middle East.
3 Knowledge of European, preferably Nordic, social conditions and law.
4 Documented experience, of at least 10 years, of supervising students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
5 Documented skills in curriculum development.
Selection criteria
The assessment of candidates is based on their degree of proficiency and ability with respect to the qualifications listed above. Scientific and pedagogical qualifications are the two main qualifications, and they are considered equally important in the assessment.
