Subject orientation: Eastern Christian studies and/or ecclesiology, international relations, and ecumenism, with a particular regard to feminist theologies
Sankt Ignatios College is a collaboration between Sankt Ignatios folkhögskola and Stockholm School of Theology. The overall purpose of the college is to foster outstanding research and education of the highest quality and to interact in a critical and creative way with church and society. Our most valuable assets are our students who, through their willingness to develop and learn, make us one of Scandinavia's most prominent theological schools.
Subject Orientation: Ecclesiology, international relations and ecumenism, with a particular regard to feminist theologies. The area of study has four objectives: A. International and external relations with emphasis on how the Orthodox Churches relate to each other and how they express themselves in society and in relation to other Christian communities and other religions; B. Inter-Orthodox integrity with emphasis on how chalcedonian and non-chalcedonian Churches relate to each other and are working towards reconciliation; C. ecumenism, with emphasis on contemporary methods for overcoming Christian division; D. Orthodox responses to feminist theologies.
Tasks: The position involves teaching related to the subject orientation, course responsibilities such as examination and supervision of students and administration, working with IOTA at an executive level, as well as advocating for and creating an International Oriental Orthodox Scholarly Association. The candidate must be able to independently supervise students, and independently work with international relations.
Eligibility requirements: The candidate must have obtained a doctoral degree in a relevant area (see Subject Orientation). In addition, the applicant should have relevant, documented pedagogical skills and the personal qualities required to fulfill the employment. The ability to teach in English is required.
Selection criteria: Special emphasis will be placed on the applicant's scholarly expertise. With reference to the nature of the employment, the applicant's scholarly and pedagogical qualifications will be assessed primarily in qualitative terms.
Scholarly expertise refers to research attainment.
Pedagogical Skills: Pedagogical skills and scholarly expertise are of equal importance for the position. When assessing pedagogical skills, pedagogical quality will primarily be taken into account. Also, scope, both breadth and depth, will be taken into consideration. The applicant's pedagogical ability must be well documented.
Other skills: It is also important that the candidate has administrative and management skills. Such skills should include a capacity for business planning and the ability to cooperate with others. Since the position also relates to international relations, the position requires thorough knowledge of IOTA and international relations, as well as inter-Church relations.
The successful candidate will work as a substitute to cover the absence of a current member of teaching staff for thirteen months up to two years.
In the first instance the position is a full-time post for thirteen months, from August 1st 2020, until September 1st, 2021. There is a possibility that the position might be extended for nine further months depending on the availability of the present member of staff.
