We are now offering an exciting opportunity for Senior Director Data Science to join our group within Biometrics CVRM. This role is preferable based at AstraZeneca's dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden or Gaithersburg, US.
What you'll do
As the Senior Director Data Science, you are responsible for defining the data science strategy and leading the delivery of a portfolio of data science projects within the CVRM Therapeutic Area. You will provide data-driven insights to help develop business intelligence, optimize effectiveness and predict business outcomes. You will lead the work with analysing complex data to support the business processes which is enabled through the identification, analysis and interpretation of data and preparation of ongoing reports and data visualizations to aid in data storytelling.
The Senior Director Data Science is responsible for line managing a group of Data Scientists and reports directly to Vice President Biometrics CVRM. In this role, you will have the opportunity to influence senior internal stakeholders and manage external collaborations and vendors to deliver effective solutions. You will contribute to or lead strategic initiatives across Biometrics and the therapeutic area (TA), and influence function strategy.
How will you make a difference?
In this role, you will:

Develop and deliver a data science strategy for the TA - both for clinical and operational/business data
*
Identify new opportunities for application of data science in the TA
*
Establish and maintain effective collaboration with other internal Data Science organizations and external vendors and/or academic partners
*
Line manage and provide inspirational leadership to a team of data scientists at a variety of career levels
*
Act as key expert, leader and spokesperson for data science in the TA
*
Provide senior stakeholders and functional leadership teams with specific expertise and advice regarding the latest and most innovative approaches to data science and related technologies
*
Define and implement data science trainings in the TA
*
Using domain-specific understanding, lead teams to translate business problems into the appropriate analytics problem and find solutions
*
Lead the adoption of ongoing knowledge and awareness in trends, standard methodology and new developments in analytics to influence functional practices and strategy
*
Representing skill/function internally and externally at seminars and meetings
What you'll need:
*
MSc Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline (advanced degree is preferred)
*
Significant in depth experience in analysing data, drawing conclusions and presenting in a succinct fashion to senior stakeholders, along with recommended actions
*
Significant experience in the analysis of data in applied business and scientific application domains
*
Knowledge of data analytic and visualization tools such as R, Python, Spotfire or Tableau
*
Experience working with database systems (eg SQL, NoSQL, graph)
*
Proven experience in leading and managing colleagues
*
Experience in influencing and controlling budgets
*
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable skills:
*
Experience in clinical development
*
Experience in a complex global organization
