hela Sverige We want to be more! The research institute Swerim conducts needs-based industrial research and development concerning metals and their route from raw material to finished product. Swerim has 200 co-workers in two locations in Sweden - Luleå and Stockholm. Our vision is a fossil-free and circular industry.
The Thermomechanical processing and casting research group at Swerim is looking for a researcher to join our team. Our work focuses on industry-oriented research on construction materials, primarily produced through casting and hot-working processes, such as various plate and strip materials. The properties of these materials are the result of thermomechanical processing, such as hot-working, or carrying out a complex heat treatment cycle possibly in conjunction with previous cold working.
Material development is normally achieved by establishing the links between material processing, its resulting structure, and the measurable properties. In this manner, improved product quality, greater resource efficiency and greater sustainability of manufacturing processes can be achieved. This is our main offer to our customers, the steel industry in Sweden as well as abroad. The increasingly strong interest in new production methods like fossil-free steel production, and increasing circularity in current production processes, are examples of topics with strong interest in this field.
Your profile
As a researcher you have previous experience within the field of thermomechanical processes, with knowledge and understanding of the link between metallurgical production processes and microstructure. You might have gotten this experience from previous doctoral studies or working in industry.
We have well equipped and well-rounded laboratories, so it is good if you have working knowledge, or even hands-on experience, of different thermomechanical simulators like Gleeble or quenching dilatometers, or possibly electron microscopy to characterise and understand the resulting structures. Skills with numerical methods for modelling, simulation or data analysis are highly appreciated. Previous experience with low-alloy steel grades is necessary, due to the complicated nature of phase transformations and precipitation events in these materials.
Your tasks
Working as a researcher includes responsibilities such as producing scientific results in projects, presenting the work to customers, and reporting. You will also work as a project leader in some projects, which includes responsibilities such as project planning and the tracking of budgetary and other resources, but also ensuring the scientific quality of the work and timely deliverables to customers. Your results will frequently be used to improve material products and manufacturing processes, in close co-operation with our partners.
Our focus is mainly on low-alloyed and ultra-high strength steels, although other types of metallic materials are frequently involved as well. You will be supported by and work in close collaboration with your research group, the administrative staff and various other colleagues at the institute.
We offer an exciting workplace with a lot of own responsibility, interesting issues, access to a large network in industry and academia, and great opportunities for personal development.
Swerim is convinced that diversity contributes to an innovative environment where we together challenge boundaries and develop new knowledge and skills for the future. It is important that you share our core values of collaboration, commitment, curiosity and integrity as they are fundamental to the business.
The position is a permanent position with placement in Stockholm
