The position is in the plant virology group at the Department of Plant Biology, Uppsala BioCenter, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and Linnean Center for Plant Biology. The department offers a creative and stimulating international environment, and is one of several departments that make up the cluster "Uppsala BioCenter" at SLU. https://www.slu.se/en/departments/plant-biology-forest-genetics/ Research: The department undertakes fundamental research on agricultural crops, forest trees, bioenergy crops and model organisms to understand the basis of development, adaptation, plant defense and evolution in plants.
Species in use are model organisms such as Arabidopsis, Physcomitrella, tobacco and yeast, and crops such as rapeseed, basket willow (Salix), potato, and cereals. Education: The department is responsible for basic courses and advanced courses in general and molecular genetics; gene technology; cell biology; plant physiology; gene expression; plant breeding; plant biochemistry and biotechnology; molecular interactions between plants and pathogens. Besides, the department contributes to various other biology courses together with other departments.
Duties:
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our ongoing research in plant virology and next generation sequencing (NGS). The applicant should be able to work independently and the tasks will include molecular cloning, mutagenesis, sequence analyses, expression studies, virus testing in plants using NGS, as well as virus infection experiments in plants. The plant species we work with include model plants, such as Arabidopsis and Nicotiana benthamiana, as well as agricultural crops, such as potato and sugar beet.
Qualifications:
The applicant should have PhD degree within plant virology, plant molecular biology or a related field that the employer considers to be equivalent. Previous experience in plant virology and, especially, in working with infectious clones of RNA viruses is a requirement for this position. Great importance will be attached to personal qualities such as the ability to communicate and collaborate, creativity and drive as well as ability to analyze and work independently. Excellent knowledge of English is a prerequisite since English is the working language in the group.
