Then RISE Mobility and Systems has an exciting job for you! We are looking for a senior researcher with a sincere interest in software engineering, especially in the context of open source technologies (including open source software, data, AI, hardware), located in Umeå, Stockholm, Göteborg or Lund. We are looking to expand our research activities in our existing industrial ecosystem, as well as widen it with new partners, and increase cooperation with universities and institutes that focus on digitalization, societal impact, and future mobility. About us At Sustainable Transport and Systems, a research unit within the Digital Systems division at RISE, we conduct applied research with the aim of addressing challenges in society and the transport system, using digitalization and electrification. Our research employs various methodologies and is carried out in close collaboration with stakeholders in the public sector and industry. The unit maintains strong partnerships with academia, industry, and the public sector.
About the position With this position, we aim to strengthen our capacity to explore how the sharing and collaboration of open technologies can contribute to new services and solutions for society. Open source technologies refers to data, specifications, models and software that are shared, reused, and collaboratively developed between its users and stakeholders. You will carry out projects with other team members and cooperate closely with industrial and academic partners. Your assignments will include both publicly funded research projects and direct assignments with private companies or publicly funded agencies. You will work in a passionate team with a lot of individual freedom. Who are you? We are looking for a candidate who will create, conduct, and lead research projects in close collaboration with other researchers and project managers. You have experience from applying for external research funding and participating in applied research involving corporate and public partners. A requirement for this position is further that you can strengthen both the internal RISE network of open technologies experts and contribute to establishing RISE as a renowned open technology innovation partner for the industry and public agencies. Specifically, we are looking to complement our team with someone who has extensive experience and knowledge about software engineering in the context of software supply-chain and cyber security. We are especially interested in competencies and interest related to how open technologies can be developed, sustained and managed in the software supply-chain, considering the increasing 1) regulatory requirements implied by (e.g.,) the Cyber Resilience Act and AI Act, 2) risk of cyber threats and vulnerability exploitation, and 3) need for digital sovereignty on regional and national levels. Experience and knowledge of best practice in industry and public sector on the intake, contribution, collaboration and compliance of open source technologies is also of particular interest for the position.
The following non-exhaustive list shows areas of expertise and abilities which are of particular interest for the position:
Ph.D., or extensive experience, in a relevant field of research.
Important areas: software supply-chain security, cyber security, collaborative software engineering, open source software, open source AI, open data, open source hardware.
Knowledge of how regulatory frameworks governing, e.g., digital services, interoperability, data governance, data sharing, data protection, AI, and cybersecurity interplay with and affect the adoption and role of open technologies in industry and society.
Experience and knowledge of open technology adoption and development practices.
Experience in working on research projects with private and public entities.
Experience in project management and securing funding for research projects.
An interest in adopting experiences in standardization, sharing, and collaboration of open source technologies in areas such as transport, automotive and logistics
