Kort beskrivning av företaget: A research position is available at the Mucins in Infection and Cancer Group at the Institute of Biomedicin, department of Medical Chemistry and Cell Biology in Gothenburg, Sweden. Our group investigates the role of mucins during host defense against bacteria, and the biological function of changes in mucosal mucin expression and glycosylation associated with disease. Beskrivning av arbetsuppgifter: The project aims to understand how the salmon pathogen Aeromonas salmonicida and the pig pathogen Helicobacter suis are regulated by the mucin environment on their hosts mucous membranes. The planned work includes isolation of mucins, structural and functional analysis of mucins and their interaction with the aforementioned pathogenic bacteria, analysis of bacterial and host gene expression, protein expression, host-pathogen communication and downstream impact on host cells.

Beskrivning av kvalifikationer: PhD in a relevant subject. The successful candidate will be selected based on their: i) laboratory skills ii) background and knowledge in a relevant field; iii) oral and written communication skills in English, and iv) analytical skills. Knowledge of mucins, glycosylation, fish and pig biology, bacterial - host interactions, bacterial culture, growth and quorum sensing analysis are particularly valued.
