We are now looking for an passionate scientist with experience of handling human biological samples within the laboratory environment to join us in supporting the discovery of innovative medicines and the development of personalised healthcare. You will work as a consultant at AstraZeneca in Mölndal and the duration of the assignment is 8 months and preferred start is 3rd of June
Relevant candidates have an academic degree in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or equivalent.
This role is focussed on the life-cycle management of human biological samples, through from coordinating the storage of samples from clinical studies to the provision of high-quality samples to research projects. This is
a highly regulated part of the industry with subject (patient/donor) safety and compliance with ethical and legal standards being the utmost priority.
You'll be part of the AstraZeneca Global Biobank Team which includes biobanks at Mölndal and Alderley Park and is part of the Screening Sciences and Sample Management Division, within the global Discovery Sciences function.
Your main responsibilities will involve:
• Coordinating the receipt, processing, archiving and request of Human Biological Samples (HBS)
• Executing laboratory tasks according to written procedures and timelines
• Identifying and resolving issues encountered when handling HBS and developing methods to avoid future issues
• Ensuring that the data associated with the HBS is recorded accurately and to a high standard in accordance with current guidelines.
• Maintaining laboratory equipment and facilities, including de-frosting freezers and moving racks of samples.
• Communicating biobank developments and statistics (e.g. accrual, withdrawals) to other members of the project and team.
• Supporting the implementation of a new IT inventory system and processes.
• Working in the Compound Management facility, as required.

Qualification:
• Experience in laboratory work and especially in handling human biological samples.
• Understanding of the importance of accurate sample and data management, and ability to troubleshoot issues.
• Practical experience of working with, and maintaining, low temperature facilities.
• Experience of working in compliance with the AZ HBS Policy and procedures, and in accordance with GXP, GLS and global biobank regulations.
• Experience of supporting the implementation of new IT systems.
