The ambition of Packaging Materials division is to be a global leader in circular economy with our high-quality renewable packaging materials based on both virgin and recycled fiber. Addressing the needs of today's eco-conscious consumers, we help customers and brand owners to find the best material for their packaging and to replace fossil-based materials with low carbon footprint, renewable and recyclable alternatives. A wide selection of barrier coatings enables the design and optimisation of packaging for various demanding consumer and industrial packaging end uses.
Stora Enso has more than 400 scientists working at research centres in Finland and Sweden as well as the Innovation Centres for packaging and biomaterials. Additionally, we have various cooperation agreements with Aalto University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Chalmers University, Rennovia Inc., Wallenberg Wood Science Centre and SweTree Technologies. We work with start-ups through our businesses and the Stora Enso Accelerator programme. We are also active in a number of national, European and trade associations focused on the bioeconomy and forestry agendas.
We are now looking for a results-oriented Research Scientist/Researcher to join our Research Centre in Karlstad. The unit belongs to the Innovation and R&D organisation within the Packaging Materials Division.
Tasks
Main responsibilities for this position are:
• Optimising and developing sustainable barrier coatings on board substrates
• Initiating, planning, leading, executing and reporting projects within the area of barriers/bio-based barriers
• Putting special attention to the interaction between base material, dispersion barrier and the PE layer, as well as the properties of the dispersion barrier
• Actively following the development in the bio-based barrier and binder area, dispersion barrier area and related areas of surface treatment
• Supporting the optimisation and development of products and processes for improved overall operational efficiency and product performance in our own and our customers' value chain
• Acting as a materials science specialist in research, technology and development related issues within the Stora Enso organisation.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you have preferably a PhD or minimum M.Sc. degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, combined with experience as a researcher, specialist or project manager in barrier coating. You have experience from working with barrier formulations and processes.
You have co-operative skills, as well as the ability to act as co-worker or leader of projects in collaboration with colleagues, both within and outside Stora Enso. You have the skills to work in a matrix organization, and good ability to actively market, sell and communicate the results from projects to internal customers. In addition to strong analytical skills, we expect you to be proficient in English and appreciate additional language skills.
