Your team
The HIPPIE beamline is a soft X-ray beamline at the 3 GeV ring dedicated to in situ and operando APXPS with samples in gas and liquid environments.
The beamline provides a wide range of sample environments enabling research in model catalysis, time-resolved photoemission, electrochemistry, 2D materials, and photo-catalytic reactions. HIPPIE is part of the APXPS team, which also includes SPECIES, an APXPS beamline located at the 1.5 GeV ring. The team consist of 12 people and is responsible for the development of the APXPS research and development programs at MAX IV.
We seek a Beamline Engineer to drive instrument development, commissioning, support, and maintenance programs at the HIPPIE beamline. The successful candidate will help the team to maintain leading positions in the area of synchrotron-based APXPS through the continuous development of new sample environments, planning and implementing the beamline upgrades, maintaining the existing hardware in the operational conditions, and promoting the beamlines' capabilities among the current and prospect users as well as collaborators and colleagues. The engineer will also interact with and provide support for user groups in relation to their beamtimes.
Your main work tasks will be
- Organizing the constant availability of technical infrastructure of the beamline, including its endstations.
- Maintain the instruments, software, and adjacent facilities and involve relevant MAX IV support groups.
- Work towards constant improvements for a user-friendly beamline
- Develop and install experimental environments
- Contribute to the beamline commissioning
- Carry out procurements for developing and maintaining the technical infrastructure.
- Prepare the beamline optimally for the planned user experiment
- Constantly evaluate the performance of the beamline during its operation and troubleshoot
- Support the users during the setup and execution of the BL experiments
- Create and maintain BL-documentations (e-documentations, repositories, WIKI, Web-pages)
- Be aware and follow the Laboratory and beamline safety rules.
To be successful in this role, you need to have the following qualifications:
- MSc in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline.
- Extensive working experience at soft X-ray beamlines of synchrotron light sources.
- Extensive experience in developing, operating, or maintaining complex ultrahigh vacuum instrumentation and scientific instrumentation at the synchrotrons.
- Ability to work independently.
- Good command of the English language, good communication, and team working skills
The following are seen as merits:
- Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline.
- Experience designing, constructing, and commissioning beamlines, including ray tracing.
- Experience developing sample environments for (AP)XPS and (AP)XAS.
- Experience in design and simulation software (Solidworks, Comsol, etc.)
- Experience in user support at the synchrotrons
- Software development skills
As a person you have good communication and team working skills as well as the ability to work independently.
