The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 38 000 students and 6 000 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

At the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences (BioEnv) we have teaching and research activities that stretch from the alpine ecosystem, through forests, cultivated land and streams, all the way into the marine environment. In these environments we study different levels of biological organisation from genes, individuals and populations, to communities and ecosystems. We work within ecology, evolution, physiology, systematics and combinations of these fields in order to understand the impact of natural and anthropogenic changes of the environment.

The department is placed at three different localities: in Gothenburg Botanical garden, at Medicinarberget in Gothenburg, and at the marine research station that is run by the Sven Lovén Centre for Marine Infrastructure-Kristineberg. The current position is placed at the Gothenburg Botanical garden.

Project description
The researcher will work with a newly started collaboration between the Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre, hosted by the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences, and the V-Dem Institute and CeCAR (Centre for Collective Action Research), hosted at the Department of Political Science. Both departments are part of University of Gothenburg.

Job assignments
The job assignment includes integrating large scale biodiversity data with V-Dem indicators to analyze relationships between democracy/democratization and biodiversity. This includes assembling global scale information on biodiversity from multiple sources, analyzing these data together with V-Dem indicators and additional climatological and socio-economic factors, taking into account biased sampling and low data quality. Additionally, the assignments include the summary of the results, in a written report or scientific publication.

The employment
This is a fixed-term employment for 3 months, 100%, starting as soon as possible or upon agreement.

Eligibility
Eligible to be employed as a Research Assistant is a person with a university degree on a basic or advanced level in political science or related discipline, with focus on democratic theory and environmental politics as outlined in the advertisement.

• As this is a cross-disciplinary and integrative project, the ideal applicant must be able to explore "big picture" connections between disciplines and datasets and understand potential relationships amongst disparate data.
• Very good communication skills are needed both in spoken and written English and Swedish.

Furthermore, the following qualifications are desirable:
• Experience in analyzing the relationship between V-dem data and large-N environmental time-series data is a strong merit
