It works as a membership-based organisation - currently joining parliamentarians from Latin America, Africa, Europe and the Middle East - with the goal of offering support and technical expertise to member parliamentarians in their small arms related work, contributing to the advancement of the small arms and violence prevention agenda, and providing space for parliamentarians and civil society to meet and join forces. The operative approaches of the Forum are focused on the production of information materials and policy tools, parliamentary capacity-building, technical support to legislative reforms, awareness-raising and campaigning, and international presence.
The Forum Secretariat is located in Stockholm and its function is to implement programmes and activities and provide advisory and technical support as requested by member parliamentarians and the Board.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direct supervision of the Secretary General of the Forum, the Programme Officer will:
• Assist in the organisation of seminars and meetings in cooperation with regional staff.
• Assist in maintaining contact with parliamentarians and governments in the countries where the Forum has members, as well as with the diplomatic community, international organisations and non-governmental organisations.
• Prepare documents for board meetings and seminars as well as funding applications and reports.
• Assist Forum members with background materials and practical needs during Forum meetings and in contexts where the Forum is represented.
• Represent the Forum in international meetings and other forums of importance for the thematic direction of the organisation.
• Perform administrative and other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree in political science, international development, law, peace and conflict studies, international relations or other relevant social sciences would be an asset. However, applicants from other academic fields will also be considered if they have relevant work experience.
• At least 3 years of work experience in a relevant field. Work experience from and/or voluntary engagement in issues related to peace and security would be an asset.
• Understanding of inter-disciplinary development issues with a focus on security and development.
• Written and spoken command of English. Other languages, particularly Spanish, but also French and Portuguese, would be an asset.
• Strong organisational skills.
