The University of Borås carries out education and research of a high international quality and with great social relevance, in collaboration with industry and the public sector. The University of Borås has approximately 13,300 students and almost 700 employees, and our campus is located in the heart of Borås. As part of the University of Borås The Swedish School of Textiles provides skills for the textile and fashion sector through education at first, second and third cycle levels, through scientific and artistic research and through close cooperation with the industry within fashion and textile design and within textile technology, economics and management. The University of Borås is since 2010 one of three higher educational institutions in Sweden entitled to award artistic doctoral degrees.The Swedish School of Textiles operations have experienced strong growth and extensive research within textile and fashion design, smart textiles, textile and material technology and textile management. Research in textile design at the school has its focus on "smart textiles design", which includes dynamic textiles patterns, textile sound design, textile interaction design and textile architecture. The University of Borås is at present the coordinator of a Marie Sklodowska Curie training network for PhD students connecting the fields of textiles and fashion design, architecture and interaction design. The Swedish School of Textiles is among the few institutions of higher education in the world that within its facilities has a full-scale textile-manufacturing environment gathering both advanced studies and doctoral studies in the development of the artistic grounds.
Job Description
The Swedish School of Textiles seeks a professor that will take the main responsibility of developing the field of textile design at The Swedish School of Textiles as well as internationally. Work tasks consist of teaching and supervision at first, second and third cycle levels, as well as initiating, leading and participating in artistic research projects. Work tasks also include taking part in quality improvement and quality assurance of education in textile design at all three levels. One important aspect of the position involves monitoring subject development, both nationally and internationally, and actively developing and participating in the department's cooperation with the surrounding world.
Qualifications
We are looking for applicants with proven artistic skills and a doctoral degree in a design or other relevant discipline. You should have credentials of (i) artistic research work, (ii) pedagogical work within design with a clear aesthetic focus, and (iii) proven experience of working as a main supervisor at both second and third cycle levels within the artistic field. For applicants who mainly have carried out research within industry or other operations, other pedagogical skills can be assessed as equivalent.
Basic development of textiles, strong knowledge of textile materials including new textile materials and techniques, experimental research, development of design methods and work within smart textiles is an advantage.
A proven organisational and administrative skill is a merit. Established contacts with industry and surrounding society are considered beneficial for promoting the school's collaboration both nationally and internationally. You must be able to communicate fluently in both spoken and written English and a good command of Swedish are a useful merit.
