The University has 42 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.
The Science division is divided into a number of supporting groups and three scientifically oriented groups, Imaging, Diffraction and Scattering, and Spectroscopy.
These groups are further divided into teams based on beamline or scientific technique. Each team has the task to develop and support the instrumentation and scientific activity at the different beamlines. The aim is to maintain and develop state of the art equipment at stable operation.
We are looking for postdoc to work as a part of the Veritas beamline team. The Veritas beamline on the 3 GeV ring of MAX IV is dedicated to Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (RIXS) covering many different applications. The beamline is currently in a mix of build-up and commissioning phase. Having seen first light during spring of 2017 we expect to have the RIXS instrument ready to go into commissioning/early user operation during spring of 2018.
Tasks
The work tasks of the postdoc include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Active participation in the commissioning of the beamline and end station in collaboration with the entire beamline team.
• Interaction with and support of expert users (early stages of operation) and regular users (at a later stage).
• Development of her/his own scientific project within the possibilities and capabilities of the beamline and collaboration with user groups.
The scientific project of the postdoc can also make use of other beamlines at MAX IV or at other synchrotron radiation facilities.
The active collaboration with users to forward the postdoc's own research project as well as the projects of users is highly desirable as is the collaboration with the SPECIES beamline for RIXS on the 1.5 GeV ring of the MAX IV Laboratory.
Qualifications
• The successful candidate must hold a PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline.
• Documented experience of performing and interpreting spectroscopic experiments.
• Documented experience of working with ultrahigh vacuum instrumentation.
• Documented experience of synchrotron-based spectroscopy is considered an advantage. Experience of soft X-ray RIXS in particular is seen as a merit.
The ability work in a team, good communication skills and good command of the English language are mandatory.
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the doctoral degree or equivalent is completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.
This is a 2 year temporary employment.
