Subject area
The position is in Biomedicine.
Background
Inflammation constitutes a critical component of many common diseases, such as cancer, mental illness, autoimmune disease, metabolic diseases, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Current research reveals a profound lack of a mechanistic understanding of different forms of inflammation, and how these constitute specific or general interactions with common diseases. The current position is part of a larger project (X-HiDE) aimed at using a systems biology approach to investigate inflammatory mechanisms.
More information can be found at
www.oru.se/X-HiDEThe project will build and investigate mathematical and mechanistic models of inflammatory processes on various scales, based on dynamical data produced from in vitro models and connected to large-scale clinical data and OMICs data. The project is transdisciplinary and includes business partners in the Life Science/Pharmaceutical industry. This project is hosted by the Inflammatory Response and Infection Susceptibility Center (iRiSC) at Örebro University, which, together with the Functional Bioinformatics group, will be the main affiliation for the position. Örebro University is one of the most expansive universities in Sweden, and was most recently placed as number 75 when Times Higher Education ranked the young universities in the world, and as number 30 when looking at the citation rate per se.
More information about Örebro University can be found at

The appointment as a postdoctoral researcher is intended to enable persons, who have recently been awarded their doctoral degree, to consolidate and develop primarily their research/artistic skills. The applicant will be responsible for developing and investigating dynamical mathematical models based on experimental data available within X-HiDE relevant for a variety of mechanisms at different scales of inflammation. The applicant will engage in tight discussion for hypothesis development, model specification and adaptation, as well as generation of model predictions in close collaboration with experimentally working biomedical researchers and clinicians.
Eligibility
Eligible for the appointment as postdoctoral researcher are applicants holding a doctoral degree in physics, computer science, applied statistics or in related subject areas, with close relation to medical or life sciences.
