Postdoctoral position at the Metabolomics platform

www.slu.se The Swedish BioBanking Infrastructure (BBMRI.se) is a national effort for efficient and harmonized collection of biological material and to ensure that biobank samples are optimally used by available molecular technologies. BBMRI.se will be one of the largest biobank initiatives in the world. It will place Sweden in a leading position in the development of new and effective techniques for biobanking, and strengthen Swedish medical research, health care and industry. Included in BBMRI.se?s tasks is to create a strategy for long-term biobank funding, providing maximum value for funders and society. The metabolomics platform at Umeå Plant Science Centre (www.upsc.se/technology...) consists of expertise and up-to-date mass spectrometry equipments such as GC/TOFMS, LC-QTOFMS, LC/TOFMS, LC/LTQ-OrbitrapMS and LC/TQMSMS. The platform has close collaboration with expertise and support regarding bioinformatics and chemometrics at the Computational Life Science Cluster (CLiC), Umeå University.
Duties:
In the frame of the BioBanking and Molecular Resource Infrastructure of Sweden (BBMRI;
www.bbmri.se) we seek a postdoctor in metabolomics. The applicant is expected to work in the metabolomics platform at UPSC, Umeå. The work involves for example:
• Initiate and pursue studies to examine the quality requirements that should apply to biobank samples, thereby to ensure accurate analyses and results. This may include examining how the sample handling process (tubes used, time from sampling to freezing, etc.) affect the sample quality for analysis.
Develop and validate protocols for mass spectroemtry based metabolomics analysis of biobanks samples.
Providing information of metabolomics techniques and relevant laboratory protocols to the BBMRI.se web-portal.
To assist the project coordinator of BBMRI.se wp4 with reports of ongoing work and results.
The project involves close interactions with expertise in metabolomics analysis, biostatisticians and medical researchers.
Qualifications: The successful candidate should have a PhD degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry or similar. Background and experience of metabolomics analysis, including knowledge in statistical experimental design, is desirable. The applicant should have good cooperation and communication skills.
Form of employment: Temporary employment, The position for 2 years with possibilities of extension.
