The Institute of Clinical Sciences is one of six Institutes within the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. The Institute represents fourteen different research areas engaged in the research and education at the University of Gothenburg: Anesthesiology and Intensive care, Biomaterials, Dermatology and Venereology, Gastrosurgical Research and Education, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Oncology, Orthopaedics, Otorhinolaryngology, Pediatrics, Plastic Surgery, Radiation Physics, Radiology and Urology. The Institute also includes a center for information regarding rare diseases.
Subject area:
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Specific subject description:
Development and quantitative application of MR pulse sequences
Job assignments:
The candidate will work within a group of experienced MR physicists and in close interaction with clinical investigators. State-of-the-art 3T Philips MR scanners, including pulse sequence development environment, are available to conduct the research. With the strategic initiative of a new Imaging and Intervention Centre (BoIC) scheduled to open in 2015, scanner resources dedicated for research will be greatly extended. A main focus will be the implementation of accelerated MR diffusion imaging methods and complementary image reconstruction software. Another focus will be the optimization of advanced diffusion imaging protocols and quantitative analysis of complex water diffusion in tissues.
Eligibility:
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctoral fellow at the University of Gothenburg. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctoral fellow aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.
Assessment::
Applicants are expected to have a PhD in medical physics, medical radiation physics, electrical engineering or related disciplines. Successful applicants must have a proven publication record. Solid knowledge of MRI physics is essential. Strong computer programming skills that include experience with pulse sequence development environments and MATLAB are preferred. Experience in MR imaging of human subjects is desirable.
