The Stockholm University Baltic Sea Centre consists of a unique combination of experts and communicators who will collaborate with a wide network of marine scientists to improve knowledge about the Baltic Sea and help society handle its marine environmental problems.

The mission of Stockholm University Baltic Sea Centre is to:

• collect useful knowledge and communicate it to the right place in society

At Stockholm University, successful research and education about the sea has been conducted for over five decades. World leading research about the Baltic Sea, as well as high-level science, originates from Stockholm University.

Project description
The position is part of the scientific project "Cumulative effect Assessment Tools for the Baltic Sea - BalticCAT". The project aims to study cumulative effects of natural and anthropogenic stressors on the Baltic Sea ecosystem through spatial food-web modelling and analyses of time series data. The results will support cumulative effect assessment (CEA) for marine and fisheries management.

Main responsibilities
The postdoc will assist in developing further a spatial food web model for the open Baltic Sea and assess the cumulative effects of natural and anthropogenic stressors on the Baltic Sea ecosystem.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree within the subject area of the position (marine ecology, quantitative ecology, fisheries science or similar), or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

In the appointment process, special emphasis will be placed on knowledge within the relevant research areas as well as personality.

Excellence in EwE software package is also required. Skills in skills in GIS, R programming, ECOSPACE, ECOTRACER and Baltic Sea ecology knowledge are merits. We are looking for a person with a genuine interest in spatial food-web modelling and holistic ecosystem analysis and who is able to:

• further develop spatial food-web models for open Baltic Sea
• perform analysis of related scenarios
• describe modelling results in a policy relevant context
• publish scientific papers and reports

Terms of employment
The employment is two years. Start date in June 2020, or as per agreement.
