The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as disease ecology.

The Environmental Science and Engineering Group (ESEG) is an active researching group in the Department of Biology and Environmental Science at Linnaeus University. The ESEG is leading and working with many European and local projects concerning wastewater and waste treatment and recycling/recovery of valuables, remediation of oil and trace elements contaminated solid media such as waste, soil and sediments, beach wrack and making healthy shallow water systems. Chemical, physical and biological methods and analyses are used through the activities of these projects. Field of subject for the position: Environmental Remediation and Resource Recovery Processing of Sediments and Beach Wrack
Placement: Kalmar
Extent and period: The basis for a postdoctoral position is 100 % permanent position to no longer then a maximum of two years. Activities should start 13th of January 2020.

Context of position:
The work includes research in development of methodology for recovery of metals, metalloids and nutrients from fine soil and waste fractions, sediments and beach wrack in the circular economy perspective. The treatment processes from dredging, dewatering and material recovery and substances developed and followed up.

The postdoctoral project include participation in the Life Environment and Resource and Efficiency EU-project named Life-Sure - Sediment uptake and Remediation on Ecological basis and the Interreg - Baltic Sea Region, Contra (Baltic Beach Wrack - Conversion of Nusiance To a Resource and Asset) as well as other projects.

20 % of the work can include teaching and tutoring in the undergraduate and graduate level.

Qualification requirements:
Qualified for appointment is the one who holds a PhD, or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD, and who have completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline. Applicants must not have previously been employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than a year in the same or related subject area at Linnaeus University.

• doctoral degree in environmental science, water resources engineering, geochemistry or equivalent
• experience of field work and laboratory sorption and speciation studies
• practical knowledge in laboratory analytics and field investigations in contaminated areas and waters.
• the work is performed in a research group why teamwork and flexibility is accorded great importance.
• good knowledge of scientific English and Swedish, both in written and spoken

In its overall assessment of skills gives particular importance to an assessment of the applicant's potential for a successful career as a teacher and researcher.
